Chapter 10

Major Clive Tillsbury exited the hired coach and gave a brief nod to Simmons who met him at the front door. "Good to have you home sir. May I take your coat?"

Clive slipped off his gray coat revealing a splendid red and white dressed uniform. He was in the grenadiers and looked the part. He was tall and fair haired with penetrating gray eyes that missed very little. "Where is mum?"

Simmons smiled in obvious good humor. "She's in the parlor sir, entertaining some guests including your brother, just back from school."

Clive lifted his eyebrows ever so slightly as the butler led him to the parlor. "Back from school is he? I hope he actually learned something this quarter. It would be a refreshing change."

Leticia glanced up at the sudden commotion. Justin jumped up. "Clive! You bloody rascal! You're back in time for Christmas!"

Clive gave him a cool look. "I'll have you know little brother that I'm not bloody anything. Such language is not appropriate in front of our mother and certainly not her guests." ...
