Birthday Party

6pm, 6 January, Helsinki

The car door slammed shut closing out the snow and wind for a moment. Janet Baker sat back enjoying the warmth and closed her eyes in a moment's contemplation. She was at the top of her game. The negotiations with the Russians had been harder than anyone had anticipated, but she had secured a new deal that was better than even she had thought possible. Now all she wanted to do was go home, but the snow storm which had swept down from the Arctic had closed the airport, so here she was on her birthday, stuck in Helsinki.

As the limo crept through the snow back to the Embassy, Janet considered how to celebrate. Peter Daniels, her personal secretary, was pouring over his papers, lost in thought. "Peter, I have had a long stressful day and I want to celebrate my birthday and the deal, can you get me a small private party?"

Peter looked up from his papers. He knew Janet well enough to read between the lines. "Of course Ma'am. Are you thinking something like the party in Rome?" Janet pursed her lips, "Yes Peter, that would be excellent, but as this is a big birthday perhaps we should have a couple more?"
