Chapter 1

I stood at the graveside at Rawdon cemetery remembering. I didn't feel the horizontal rain lashing me. What an awful experience to see such a beautiful woman end up in a coffin at such an early age. It was cancer they had remarked and Ruth's body was shot through with it. 42 years young and leaving a daughter Clare, aged 20.

I heard a voice behind me. 'You ok?'

I turned to see Julie walking up to me and she slipped her arm through mine.

'Yea, just looking and thinking about Ruth and Clare. Hope Clare is OK.' We stood there for a brief moment looking into the grave and at the coffin which was partially covered with dirt thrown on from above.

' I'm sure Clare will be fine, come on,' she remarked, 'let's go and have a drink.'

'Good idea, I feel like getting rat-arsed.' I replied pushing my thoughts deeper. I took one last look, blew Ruth a kiss and wished her speedy voyage to heaven. ...
