It was late, again, when the bus dropped me off. A week had passed. I thought the dame would be fit to be tied, but that was not the case at all. I saw a figure huddled in a heavy jacket a short distance away. Thinking it could be the law, or worse, my right hand moved to the front of my coat so I could reach my pistol more quickly.

"I've been waiting on every bus the past three nights," Daisy's familiar voice greeted me as I approached. "I was beginning to lose hope."

"I keep my promises when I can," I responded without emotion.

Her arms outstretched, welcoming me inside of them. I returned the warm hug.

"I'm sorry for being late," I whispered, "but I've finally got this mess all figured out."

"Then I'll forgive you."
