Tracy Greens Community Service. By Lady Grey

Tracy Green gripped onto the rail of the dock, her knuckles whitening, as the judge in his red robes looked gravely at her.

"You have been a very naughty girl, Miss Green. Shoplifting is a despicable offence, depriving hard working shopkeepers of their just dues. As it's your second offence, I should give you a custodial sentence, but I have listened to your case worker and I think retraining and some community service will be better for you and the community."

Tracy felt her heart lift. At least she now knew she wasn't going to prison.

"I'm giving you a two year suspended sentence, which means if you appear before me again within the next two years, you will end up in prison. You will be assigned a probation officer who will organize your retraining and your community service, and I hope through this you will learn your lesson that crime does not pay. You may stand down."

The police officer who was escorting her took her arm and led her from the dock and out of the court room. She breathed a big sight of relief. Whatever she had to do now it couldn't be worse than being locked up in a prison cell, ...
