Memoirs... again.

I was teaching in a little, rural school in north central Missouri. I had taught at the university lab high school for a year and then moved on to another school. It was really different. I was teaching in Bevier, MO, the home of the 14 mile railroad "Bevier and Southern". The B&S was one of the few railroads still using steam engines. It was fun to watch them steam through town, hauling coal from the Thomas Hill strip mine south of town.

The kids were typical small town kids. Nice enough, but not exactly motivated. Everyone wanted their kids to return home after college, if they went to college. Most boys expected to work in the mine. Most of the girls expected to marry a miner.
