Progressive Lenses

My eyeglasses were six years old and needed replacing. Since turning 40 it has become more difficult to read.

Last weekend I went to the regional mall and the local branch of a national eyeglasses chain. After an appointment with a nice Indian optometrist, I went next door to the store. Most of the women working were Russian (odd because there are relatively few living here). One of them helped me with a new pair with progressive lenses. These take a week to manufacture off-site, so they asked me to come back to pick them up.

When I returned the following Sunday, the place was busy. All of the sit-down stations where eyeglasses were adjusted were occupied. One of the older Russian women had me sit at a business station to wait until a spot opened up. She went over to the stations and asked a young woman to help me when she was done. The woman had brown hair and a fairly small, oval face, and on first glance was reasonably attractive.

She came over a minute or so later. I had noticed that an older gentleman was waiting with no assistance at a station. At this point I could see a pair of beautiful brown eyes and a very cute face. "Why don't you help that gentleman first, he was waiting before me," I told ...
