Ken walked into the house to the usual half-hearted welcome from his wife of fifteen years, Amanda. It all just became part of the norm for him, like a shitty day at the office, and he compartmentalized it and relegated it to the part of his brain that controlled his breathing and heart beating. It was just the way it was. A happening in his life.

He really couldn't blame her for feeling the way she did. Life wasn't easy once they had gotten married. A series of recessions and bad decisions had Ken out of work more times than he cared to think about and, until about the last year, Amanda had been forced to become the bread-winner. The resentment wasn't hard to see and even though she tried for the children's sakes, any little thing would set her off on a tangent of derogatory comments all directed at his masculinity. Regardless of the fact she was now home where she really wanted to be, she couldn't let the past remain where it was.

Both were exhausted by the situation but they knew that they were bound together financially and so, rather than struggle to make it alone, they stayed together and tried to be civil. Needless to say, Amanda had shut down sexually on him and Ken found release with an active imagination whenever he was alone.

"You'll never guess who I ran into today." He knew the news would cheer her mood. "Jerry!" This caught her attention.
