Poh was devastated when she heard the news about May. Poh had tried to shield May from the harshness of life as best she could. She had known her daughter would grow into a beautiful woman when she saw the changes in her during puberty. That's why she never dressed her well or brushed her hair. She did not want May to draw the attention of the merchant or any passing slaver. She did not want May to become a concubine.
