Conflicting schedules

My name is Debra and I'm a 42 year old mother of two, married to the same man for 22 years. My son Fred is currently an officer in the US Marines serving in Iraq. My daughter is attending college in England leaving my husband Tom and I as empty nesters. Tom works for the State Department which requires a great deal of travel out of the country. Myself, I work in Real Estate which keeps me very busy as well.

As luck would have it, my 42nd birthday party was all planed when Tom got the call that he had to travel off to Turkey. Then I got a notice in the mail that I was being honored at the State realtor's convention two days after my birthday for having the most completed sales in the prior quarter. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed and made sure my husband knew about it. I knew there was nothing he could do to change it, but it still made me mad.

Tom's younger brother Jerry happened to stop by for a quick visit and I explained how Tom was going to leave me hanging for these two events coming up. Jerry was close to my age, divorced for several years and a self proclaimed "ladies man". He was very handsome, more so that my husband Tom, and was very outgoing and sort of happy-go-lucky sort of attitude.
