"So you'll be there early to help?" Dave needed no time to consider - "Definitely; you can count on me."

"Great!" responded Kari. "It would be perfect if you could show up at say, 4 o'clock, and help us set up for the barbecue - Kara and I could really use some strong arms to move the tables and chairs around. We'll feed you supper for your trouble, of course."

After assuring her that it was his pleasure to help, he hung up with an amused look on his face. Hmmm. Very intriguing. It was obvious that Kari was disappointed to see her husband Jon suddenly announce he would be out of town for this weekend's party, especially given that her twin sister Kara (who lived in Europe) would be there.

Kari and Jon had been planning for weeks to hold one of their relatively frequent parties at their house, and the word had gone out well enough in advance that it should be well attended. What Kari clearly hadn't known was that her husband Jon would not be there. Dave shook his head at that; Dave had known for a couple weeks that Jon wouldn't be at the party, but Jon had sworn Dave to secrecy, knowing that Dave and Kari talked often.
