The president was not amused. It seemed that every time he had an important piece of legislation on the proverbial political block, unexpected things would happen. There'd even been a case where a senator in good Democratic Party standing, Lloyd Granger, had precipitously switched parties. This was almost unheard of. On a rainy October morning, the president called in the director of the CIA for some consultation regarding this alarming trend.

Frank Timmons was one of those no nonsense guys with a devastating combination of common sense and a razor sharp mind. He sat across from the leader of the free world in a somewhat less formal setting than usual. The president offered him a cup of rich Columbian. "Thank you mister president, what can I do for you?"

The president looked for a long moment at a portrait of Lincoln before returning his attention to Timmons. "In regards to the recent strange results in the senate, including the defection of Granger, what in the benighted fuck is going on?"

Timmons almost choked on his coffee. He'd never heard the president use the f word or any other form of profanity for that matter. The commander and chief was noted for being politically correct to the point of being excruciating. He cleared his throat. "In a word, nooky." ...
