It had become our annual pilgrimage. The girls went on a vacation alone, and the men went fishing. Few couples have this arrangement. We, my best friend Pat and I, found this to be a great outlet for both our wives, and ourselves. Being in the presence of your "loved one" constantly, can, and often does, put a strain on many marriages. Couples need time apart; at least we found that it helped our marriages.

After dropping our wives off at the airport for their flight, we climb back into my SUV and begin our drive up to the lake. Immediately, Pat opens the cooler we have placed on the back seat, and pops out two cold ones, to get us started, he says.

"This is going to be a great week," Pat chimes. "I have so been looking forward to get- ting away. No more pressure from the job, no more work, no more running. Just two glorious weeks of relaxation."
