Anna caught her breath and quickly slid the cardkey and note back into the envelope, and then sat down in her desk chair. Her legs didn't seem to want to support her just at that moment. She glanced at her co-workers' desks; no one else was around. She settled into her morning routine of coffee, checking emails and picking up yesterday's unfinished tasks.

"Anna, may I see you in my office?"

She jumped, having been completely engrossed in thought - not about the figures on her computer monitor, but about what might be happening in just a few hours. Her supervisor was standing at her desk. Surprised, she nodded, and then got up to follow him. He nodded at his office door once they were both inside; she took the hint and closed it, then sat on the guest chair.

"Anna, Virginia just called. She has a family emergency and is taking some leave," David informed her.

Anna didn't care for her colleague Virginia; she was a nosy slacker who spent most of her time either in idle conversation or self-diagnosing her various physical maladies on the internet.
