TUESDAY

My cell phone rang promptly at 9:30 am just as we'd agreed upon the night before, and we made quick plans for her to drive up to the house by 11:00. It seemed to be the place she was most comfortable meeting me by the sounds of her voice, so I gave her the address and she said she knew of the road. As I hung up I mused that perhaps someone near her condo knew her well enough to cause her some concern about being seen with a stranger. It made sense but at the same time it didn't matter to me where we met, just as long as she was willing to meet me. I was looking forward to taking the bike out with someone who was used to riding; it had been so long since I'd had someone on the back of a bike. The weather seemed just right for a tour of the surround countryside, just warm enough not to require the heavy leather jackets, yet cool enough to keep us from sweating too much from the gear and sun.
