The Storm

The wind was howling outside and snow was drifting up. Looking out of the window, we could only barely make out the trees just a few yards away. This was a huge winter storm that was dumping mounds of snow on the whole area. It was a good thing we were inside and warm.

The fire was crackling and we sat on the old sofa together, snuggled up, just watching the fire and listening to the storm. She was tucked under my arm, head on my chest, and the heavy quilt was over both of us.

I breathed a sigh of content and felt the warmth on my face. I looked down at her and realized she was smiling.

"What are you thinking?" I asked

"oh, nothing really."

"Then what is that smile for?"

"well, I was thinking about doing something. Something fun, something that makes me smile."

"oh? What was that?" ...
