The Partnership. A Fantasy office story by Lady Grey

For once in her life, Carla Wingate felt nervous. It was a strange and uncomfortable feeling as the tall attractive blond usually exuded confidence. She looked down at her highly polished black leather shoes and eased her dark grey, slim fitting, pin striped skirt down another millimeter around her nylon sheathed knees. She looked across at the primly dressed secretary busily typing. She looked up from her work sensing Carla's stare and smiled momentarily before resuming her work.

Carla was feeling unusually nervous. Was it because today was one of the most important in her life, the day she had worked for for the last seven years? Today she was up for a partnership, a partnership in one of the cities most prestigious law firms, Bowman and Lang.

Carla had been an A grade student all the way through law school where she had passed out with the highest honors. She had impressed the interview panel at Bowman and Lang with her oratory skills and knowledge when she attended for an interview a month after receiving her degree from law school. Now after only three years with the company, she was up for a partnership.

Her mind drifted back to the meeting she had yesterday afternoon with Felicity, her senior. It had been strange in ways she could not put her finger on. Felicity had congratulated her on her opportunity to go ...
