As you may recall, from the episode entitled: ‘Mary's Secretary,' there was an ‘alleged' incident involving Alice - who stood in for me at the advisory counselling centre while I returned to my home town of Manchester to visit my ill mother - and Mark, one of the janitor's. Something that, after she finally explained it to me, I said I would look into.

On the next occasion that I attended the centre, I waited around to see what Mark had to say for himself, after what had happened with Alice. Hearing a vacuum cleaner start up, I strode over to my office door, and opening it up, I said: "I want a word with you," in a rather brusque manner. "Sorry, Roger, I thought you were Mark," I tell him. "Mark's over in the other offices, if you want, I'll go and get him for you," Roger informs me. "If you would," I say, "as I really need to see him about something." And while Roger goes and finds Mark, I return to my office and compose myself for what needs to be said.

Several minutes later, there's a knock on my door, to which I say: "come in." Mark, followed by Roger, now enters my office. ‘Good,' I think, ‘if Mark starts anything untoward, I've got Roger to help, and bear witness.'
