As a result of, local-/government, cutbacks, one of my areas fire stations was being closed, inparticular the one near me. About 6 months ago there was a fire in the downstairs flat and luckily they arrived to rescue me, otherwise...! Anywho, to show my appreciation for what they did, in the wake of the closure, I invited my three saviours around for an evening meal.

During the meal, which I hadn't gone to town with, I asked them what they would be doing. Bob and Steve were considering setting up a fire consultancy service, while Giles was currently retraining for IT. "Really! That's my line of work," I tell him. Getting back to the meal I tell them to leave room for desert! Clearing the plates away, and declining their help, I return to the table, and say: "Ready for desert?" "Sure, Janet," they reply. Having placed my hands on the left corner post of Steve's chair, I wait. "So, how long before desert?" Steve asks. "I think you'll find it's already here, Steve," Bob says. "Where?" Steve, again, enquires. "Behind you," Giles replies, getting up. Lowering my head, I lowly say, to Steve: "It's me. If it hadn't been for you, well...! You saved my life, and (with a tear in my eyes) I'm going to miss your being there." Hey now, Janet," Bob says, "don't cry. This evening obviously means something special to you," he empathises. "I'm just slightly emotional. I'll soon be allright once I'm in your safe hands." And with that, I lead them into my bedroom.
