Like most kids who have to watch their parents separate and divorce, of course there was a part of me that hoped that, given time, my parents would resolve their differences and, for my sake, play happy families.

With hindsight, my dad separated from my mum because of her constant accusations of cheating, the reality was, later in life, my dad did admit to having three affairs because my mum wouldn't take care of his sexual needs.

At the age of 10, of course I didn't want to leave the place I called home, for almost a week I did everything I could to stop my parents from separating, yet let my dad be what he was, with foresight....... my dad had put in an offer for a house five minutes walk from his and as part of the subsequent divorce settlement, my dad plunged his expanding business into debt to ensure that his own son had the sort of life he'd always known.
