The day was just perfect as Lilly stood by the water's edge, the bright summer sun rising high overhead, a single jewel set in the blue Austrian sky.

She had come here with her parents, holidaying in a small lodge at the foot of the Alps, not far from where they often visited ski resorts. This time, however, they had selected a beautiful spot in a more isolated place, away from Jochburg and Kaltenbach, and while walking on her own Lilly had descended to a delightful pool she had seen in the valley below which, it seemed, no one else ever visited.

In Winter, this spot would be covered in snow but now the valley had been transformed into a rich carpet of grasses and alpine flowers, and, removing her plimpsoles, Lilly dabbled her small feet among the pads that floated on the calm surface of the water. The sun was burning above and, dressed in white leggings with a yellow top, she was beginning to feel extremely warm, her long, blonde-white hair falling over her shoulders and pushed back from her brow by her sunglasses.

She looked around. There was no-one to be seen at all in the valley, though in the distance she could just make out what looked like a small cottage. The water itself, a shining mirror broken by the occasional flower, looked extremely tempting, and she had thought to herself how lovely it would be.
