I couldn't think too much about what I was doing. The rational side of my brain wanted to hop up on a soapbox and explain just how crazy I was. A million things could go terribly bad and I knew that I'd come up with a couple dozen scenarios if I let myself.

I had been involved in only two ‘one night stands' before in my life and each of those were with people that I had met before the night we had sex. Friends of mine described going to a bar with the intention of getting laid and then successfully closing the deal. Perhaps I was too ‘romantic' for such ordeals but I never could bring myself to try and pick someone up.

Perhaps even then I wasn't as forceful as other guys simply because I already felt more in touch with the feminine me. Maybe I really was a coward. Whatever the case, I wasn't going to let fear get in the way of this encounter.

I sensed that this was a lot more than just a one night stand. I felt like there was a mentor in Sheila and it was quite possible that she could be the most valuable bit of help I could receive on my path. She had confidence and through the virtue of being the first person to be ‘out' with me, I felt close to her, even though I barely knew her at all.
