What with Rachel, my current assistant due to take maternity leave in a months time, I set about the task of advertising for a replacement, with a reliable on-line recruitment agency. No offence to Rachel, but she had only been working here for three months when she discovered that she was pregnant, so, this time, and even though I am a woman myself, I decided to hire a male assistant; figuring also, what with our differential interests, we might get some of the backlog of work that needed doing - transferring paper files onto the computer.

In all, and with the agencies help, I short listed five possible candidates, having reviewed their CV's, I then cut them down to the usual three:

Steve had completed and passed an ECDL course, albeit on MS office 2000 (it was now 2009), and had since worked temporary for an assortment of companies.

Robert, on the other hand, had completed an HR course, but didn't take the examination; nonetheless, he worked as an admin assistant - to learn the ropes, and then progressed to being a HR assistant for a small company for some while afterwards.

The third candidate was Trevor, and like Steve he had also completed, but not passed the ECDL course. So, why had I selected him, you ask? Unlike Steve, Trevor had worked for the same company, and was ...
