Working For The Promotion

A few months back, while at work, I was sitting at my computer in my office, when an email arrived in my inbox. It was titled "Promotion", so I excitedly opened it. I had worked at this company for several years, and I hadn't had a promotion in a while. I was pretty desperate for one, because my husband had recently been laid off from his job, and we had bills piling up, including our mortgage on a beautiful home that we had always dreamed of, and I didn't want to lose it. I opened the email and began to read it. It was from the owner of our company, and it basically stated that over the next few weeks, he would be evaluating everyone's performance at work and see who was working the hardest and making the most progress at work. He would be giving three promotions to the three people he chose. I knew that I would have to work my ass off and do everything that I could to get one of those promotions.

The following Friday afternoon, I was getting my stuff together to go home for the weekend when I realized my boss was still in his office. I gathered my things and stopped by his office on my way out. He greeted me and asked if I needed anything, to which I replied that I was interested in the up coming promotions. He went over the basics with me, and told me that he would keep me in mind.
