Since I didn't see Chad anymore, I got used to pretending that Rosa was still free. I had decided to join the military again seeing as that seemed the place for me, and I wanted to take Rosa out to dinner before I left.

She reminded me that she was dating Chad, but I didn't want to talk about him. I took her to a fancy seafood restaurant and bought a bottle of champagne. I told her I had really valued her friendship over the past few months and once again, asked her what her feelings were for me. She told me that she though of me as a good friend, despite what everyone else had told her. Then after dinner, she asked me to drop her of at Chad's place since he was nursing a bad cold and she wanted to take care of him.

I wrote her while I was in boot camp and as luck woud have it, a medical condition ended my short lived 2nd career in the military. After spending the holidays in North Carolina, I returned to Maryland and took a chance of dropping by Rosa's house unannounced. She answered the door in well worn jeans that had ripped knees and a sweatshirt that looked familiar, but I couldn't place. I was so happy to see her, and after a hug looked around for her favorite iced tea. She laughed and told me she only drank it in the summer.
