At the time of this story, I was 30 years old and finishing up my 7th year as a high school teacher. It was the last day of the school year, which is a total blow off day in my district—the students only have to show up for about an hour and get report cards and the teachers only have to put the finishing touches on cleaning up their rooms and then we're all done. In fact, it was only 11 a.m. and I was the only teacher still there. I had actually turned in all my stuff but the end of the school year, while a welcome relief, also leaves me feeling a bit nostalgic so I was looking through some material and having memories of some of my students from years past.
