Tuck is Released from Rehabilitation with a Gift

Charlotte stood at the rehab center desk completing my discharge papers while I changed from the workout clothes provided by the center. When I had disposed of the gym outfit I peeked over her shoulder to see how far down the list she had made entries. She was on the last section as I sneaked my look. Two more lines and I could sign and be on the way home. It was a moment I had looked forward to for the last six weeks. It had been an ordeal from the day I was hit by the cart, to the time I spent at home peg legging around on crutches, until today when I graduated from having to be schooled in taking care of my now mostly healed, but slightly crooked leg. I still can't run for another year until I received the all clear from the orthopedic surgeon. I will wear a minor brace on the lower leg in an attempt to correct the crook just above the ankle. I can live with the brace, whether I can survive not running is another question. I may go a little batty without the injection of adrenaline the run gives me. Time will tell.

Charlotte pushed the papers toward me, I gladly took the pen and with a flourish, signed on the un-dotted line, she folded a copy and stuck it in my logbook.
