The party had been a good one, but it was in its death throes when I caught a glimpse of Melissa disappearing up the stairs; a young, muscular, surfer-type nervously in tow.

I'd been watching her all night and had been enthralled at the way she had effortlessly outshone the other women at the party, despite being nearly twice the age of many of my employees' girlfriends and wives.
