It has been a few days since Hurricane Sandy had plowed through the area and I was out in front of my house cleaning up a bit. The storm had caused a lot of destruction throughout the area and everyone was in cleanup mode. As I was cleaning up, I heard a vehicle pull up and looked over to see my neighbor parking his truck across the street. I stopped what I was doing and walked over to talk to him. He told me that he was just coming back from checking on his shore house and that it had a lot of damage. It had been flooded with 5 feet of water and the entire first floor was gone. He was going to have to rebuild the entire first floor and replace all the furniture. Basically, there wasn't much left of their home except for the frame. I told him that I was sorry to hear about it and told him that if he needed any help to let me know. He thanked me and said that he was going to talk to his insurance company and see what they could do. I went back to cleaning up around my property, as he went inside his house.

A few days later, I was out tending to my lawn when I saw my neighbor puttering around his yard. I went over to talk to him and asked him how things were coming along with his shore house. He told me that he had spoken with his insurance company, but they had a ton of claims on their hands and it was going to be a very long time before he would see anything. He told me that he was pretty much better off starting to fix the place himself and worry about the insurance company later on.
