Chapter 2 Whispering Pines: The Love Nest

After a year, the old Larson farm was almost nonexistent. The fire that consumed both the farmhouse and barn simultaneously left so little rubble that the weeds and brush soon hid any evidence that it was once a vibrant family farm. All that remained of the two structures was the concrete slab from the old barn, its rectangular shape like a giant gravestone.

Loretta was riding Mona Lisa, an older black mare with a gentle disposition. She was perfect for this rendezvous because she no longer had a tendency to wander off. Plus she was a comfortable ride after an hour of robust lovemaking.

Before easing the mare down the steep hill behind the Larson farm, Loretta looked at what was left of it. The only structures left standing were a small cottage and a small chicken coop. The original farmhouse, its remains bulldozed over and the cellar filled in with dirt, had been situated between the barn and the small mother-in-law cottage and chicken coop. The fire was extinguished before it reached the two small buildings.

She carefully rode the mare down the hill. Her destination the tiny cottage, which was now a love nest for her and Enoch.
