Chapter 6: Dénouement

"Can you get into the computer system from here in the hotel?" I asked Ian.

"If I can use your laptop," he replied. "I didn't bring mine, I was in such a rush last night."

"Here's what I want you to do. Uncomment that SQL so that canceling a shipped order stops working. Cancel Derek's access to the system so he can't cover up everyone's tracks. But then I want you to look into Motown Electrical. Tell me who entered the orders for them, who canceled them, who signed-off the shipment on the dock and so on."

"Wow, there really is something going on then?"

"Yes. I can even tell you the answers. Jonathan placed the orders. Jonathan canceled them. Or maybe Derek. Larry shipped them."

Ian worked on the computer for about ten minutes.

"You are right," he said. "Jonathan placed the orders. Larry shipped them. In the past Derek would cancel them manually. But now Jonathan seems to be able to cancel them. I guess that was after Derek commented out that code so he didn't need to do everything by hand." ...
