As I'm sure some of you will appreciate, the Public Sector hasn't exactly been a great place to be working over the last two or three years. Budget cuts have meant a lot of job losses and pay cuts. Although, if I'm totally honest, a lot of the changes that have been taking place at the City Council where I work have been long overdue.

Anyway, in amongst all of these cutbacks I had a couple of tough years. The department I was in got split up, so no getting to see Liz and Maria every day, I got given a lot more work to do with no support to do it, and to cap it all I got a massive pay cut too! Lucy was still my boss, kind of, but there was a period (thankfully over now) where I was definitely not sure whether I was coming or going. It was during this period that I suffered quite a bit with depression and stress. The City Council provides it's employees with a support and counselling service for that kind of thing, so I made the decision to refer myself to them. It was an interesting experience...

The initial appointment was just to run through what problems I was having and to discuss the process that the counselling would follow. When I'd booked myself the appointment I'd spoken with a very friendly, calm and reassuring guy called Andy so I was expecting my appointment to be with him. It wasn't.

I arrived, was greeted at reception and asked to take a seat in the waiting room next door. Typical waiting room really - five year old ...
