An Affair to Remember: Chapter 2 The Secret Revealed

It was Tony's last night with Sarah before her husband Edward returned home from his trip to San Francisco. It was after 11:00 p.m. when he left his room over the stables to sneak up to her room in the big house.

In the moonlight, the massive Second Empire style mansion was formidable. Built after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, it was a rectangular monstrosity with an unsightly cupola atop its center giving it an almost cathedral-like appearance. The interior was posh with ornate architectural features, gilded trim and lavish wall coverings in silk that resembled the interiors of European castles.
