We sat at a small round table and I felt like I was under interrogation. Wally drummed his fingers, looking at me trying to decide what to say. He pulled me away from all of our friends to talk about something he said was very important. I cleared my throat and waited, watching the minutes tick by on the clock behind him. I could tell by the look on his face that he was angry, but I just wanted him to get it over with now. “I saw you the other day in a car- a white car.” He saw the flash of recognition in my eyes.

“Yes-“ I didn’t deny anything, this was none of his business to begin with.

“He had dark hair, a jean jacket on...” He wanted some sort of explanation, but I offered none. “You hugged him.”

“Yes.” I was annoying him but I wanted him to get right to the point.

“You are dating someone else- someone we both know.” I tried to hide my smile. It was so cute the way he defended one of his friends’ reputations. I was not impressed, though. I had no intention of continuing with that relationship. It was old and tired and boring. Wally sighed and interlaced his fingers, resting his chin on them. “You hugged this guy.” ...
