Carole and John part 1

The party was going well ... we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and all our friends had come round to give us a wonderful evening. I was talking to Steve and Jane, but I was gazing over at John, my husband who was cooking on the BBQ, talking to his mates and drinking a beer. He looked just the same as 25 years ago, still tidy but with a little more weight on his middle and some grey hairs increasingly visible.

I had met him in college and knew within 5 minutes that we were meant to be together, although he was going out with another girl at the time. When he parted from her, I made sure that we spent time together until we were going out, and a few years later it led on to marriage. Best decision of my life.

I swirled my glass of wine and tried to catch up on the conversation. "Yes, the kids are both doing well: Joanne has a full time job and David is in his last year at university." The conversation drifted and finally we had some rather drunken, but lovely speeches, and all our friends drifted off. The kids went up to their rooms and we decided not to clear up, but do that in the morning.
