I met Lise at the gym.

After about two years away from what used to be my regular morning workout, I finally went back. I had to reregister with the new system that requires your phone number and a finger scan, and I felt pretty stupid when I finally showed up at the gym again, not only because I didn't know how to work the new system, but because I had been paying monthly fees this whole time. I don't even want to think about the money I wasted! Anyway, I knew it was the right choice, so back I went, to punish my body in the name of fitness.

I met Lise about one-half hour into my routine, that first day back. I was trying to recapture the past, following my old patterns, but my performance was WAY down, and I think I was dripping sweat and almost certainly showing my age (which is 60+, by the way). Lise was sitting on one of those "sissy" machines that I think you use to strengthen your shoulders, rotating a couple of short little arms that don't seem to strain the people using the machine at all. I had never tried that machine; I thought it was for old guys only, and even if I am 60+, I wasn't going to go to the gym to twirl a couple of rotors and pretend that this was exercise.

Lise is NOT 60+. In fact, as I later found out, Lise is 40 years old, ...
