Nikki's Story

I woke up the next morning before Matt and freshened up. I walked out into the kitchen where Jenn was squeezing fresh orange juice. When she saw me coming she apologized for making noise. I assured her that I was an early riser, and that I had slept well.

We talked awhile about different topics. I learned how she had met Kevin, and I told her about how Matt and I had met. We quickly became comfortable talking with each other, and we fell into a nice conversational rhythm as we worked together in the kitchen. "That is a beautiful picture of you on your bedroom wall." She looked at me kind of oddly, and I continued, "I was never supposed to know it was you. Matt never tells me anything at all about any of the women he has in his special photo album, even when I ask. Three months ago, I won an odd sort of bet and he agreed to tell me about the woman in the matching picture, but not anything that would ever identify her. He was of course confidant that I would never see the photo anywhere but in his album."

"So you know that he and I were lovers? I'm so sorry that you had to meet me. It can't be fun for you."
