I'm just a working guy. I drive a pickup to the job site, and earn my callouses. But I did write that one book, and have another in the works, so I have more to do than just sit on my ass when the working day is through. My publisher thinks I should pump out this new book like water from a well. I experience a different reality. Finding the time to write is a problem. But with some free moments and the right place in which to work, free from problem and distraction, I might just meet their expectations.

So when I won the raffle, and the perfect away from it all place became available to me, I jumped at the opportunity. My boss was cool about it, and gave me the week off. And I packed the truck with all that I thought I might need, and then set out to get the job done.

The lighthouse was built in 1870, and then rebuilt after the 06 earthquake. The lighthouse keepers kept the light burning and turning for the decades after. The homes they lived in were built in the early 60's. There were four, one for the head keeper, with a small apartment adjoined. And then there were three for the assistant keepers, lined up in a row just south of the lighthouse. Far out on a point of land, the point that bored into the pacific, that site of so many ship wrecks, stood the light that saved so many others.

When technology, with radar and later gps, and all that other made the light less necessary, and the light itself changed to a soul-less ...
