I was sitting in my basement messing around with my model trains and watching some college football one Saturday afternoon last September when I heard a commotion outside. I went over to one of the windows to see what was going on and could see a crowd gathering out front. I decided to head out the side door to go see what was happening. When I got outside, I found my mother-in-law's third-floor tenant whose name was Vanessa, up on the steps holding her dog. To keep from going into too many details about the situation, I'll put it like this. An unfortunate situation occurred where one of our other neighbor's dogs jumped the fence in the yard and bit Vanessa's dog. Everyone was trying to help her and I decided to grab my car keys and rush her and the dog to the vet. They ended up having to stay that because the dog needed surgery and it was going to be a while so after thanking me, she told me that I could go home and didn't have to wait. I told her to call me if she needed anything and was on my way.

Later that evening, I ran to the store to grab a few items and then returned to my basement to putter around some more. As I was in the basement, the doorbell rang and since my wife was busy with our son, I headed up to see who it was. I opened the door and saw Vanessa standing there. I greeted her and asked how her dog was, and she said that it was recovering from the surgery and that she was going to go back later on.
