Chapter 1: The Neighbors

When we first discovered our exhibitionist tendencies, Dick had been my boyfriend for just a short time. It seemed unlikely that our relationship would last long, student relationships don't, let alone that he would become my husband. But that is what happened. We moved to suburbia, bought our first home, and thought about starting a family.

Next door was another couple. Let's call them Anne and Bill. They were about the same age as us, mid-20s by then I suppose. Dick often had to work late but since I was working as a teacher I would get home much earlier. Bill would also be late home sometimes so Anne and I gradually developed a habit of having a glass of wine together while we waited for our men to come home.

It all started one evening when we had finished our first glass of wine and neither man had put in an appearance. We weren't drunk but we were certainly less inhibited that we had ever been before.

There was a long silence in the conversation.

"How's your sex life?" I said. I have no idea where that came from, it's not something I would normally dream of asking explicitly. I'd at least make an attempt to be subtle.
