Her hair was short, a smooth cap of brown that would grow out in curls. She lay motionless in the sleep chamber, waiting for the machinery to bring her back to life. I jacked in to the terminal and scanned her records. No genetic abnormalities, healthy, 19 years old. Psychologically "normal" for her culture. I overrode the privacy locks and used the medical scanner to view her body. Firm-looking, medium-sized breasts with large brown nipples. Smoothly curved hips. Not a virgin. Psych files showed a sense of adventure and need to be part of a group.

Typical colonist. Too bad for her the colony isn't there.

I checked the settings on the chamber, and activated the wake-up.

Twelve hours later, I finished my preparations and went to the chamber. All lights green - good, I hate to lose one - her chest rose and fell evenly, she's ready to rejoin the land of the living. I punch the button, the chamber lid splits apart, and she opens her eyes.

She blinks a few times to clear her eyes, then looks around curiously. This _isn't_ the colony ship. Where are all the other chambers? She should be waking up along with several hundred other women and girls, not alone in a room with a man looking down on her! She looked ready to start blurting questions, so I initiated conversation.
