As my husband was finishing up a few things around the house a while ago, I could tell that he was extremely excited. We were fixing up the guest room because we were getting ready to have someone come stay with us. About three years ago, my husband's close friend was involved in an unfortunate situation on his way home from a bar. He had been out drinking with some friends and on his way home, a couple of guys tried to pick a fight and mug him. Being that he had served in the military, he was able to defend himself pretty easily against these guys. The unfortunate part was that he went a little overboard since he had been drinking and one of the guys was hospitalized for several months. The guy completely got what he deserved for trying to mug our friend Carlos, but sadly, the judge that was assigned to the case didn't see things that way. Carlos was charged for beating the guy so severely and ended up being sentenced to two years in county lockup. It was an unfortunate situation and he was just defending himself, but I guess the judge cared for the fact that he nearly beat the guy into a coma. When he began his sentence, my husband went to see him on a weekly basis. We were really the only people that he had around here because the rest of his family lived out of state. Carlos had been hoping to land a full-time job at a big business in our area when he got out of the military, but unfortunately everything that had happened put a halt to that. Luckily for him, he was a very good inmate and was eligible for parole after serving 9 1/2 months in prison. He went in front of the judge and after everything was reviewed, the judge let him out on probation. My husband was ecstatic that his friend was coming out early ...
