I'm Joel, 20 and live in a small flat on a sink estate near the City centre with my Mum and three younger sisters. Mum is white but my Dad who left us when were little, was from Jamaica. I'm the first one of my family to go to College, which is a source of much pride. My best friend Kieran on the other hand is white, middle class and lives in a huge house in a leafy suburb, about 8 miles away.

He went to an expensive Private school, but flunked his exams and had to make do with going to the same College as me.
