They spent the afternoon at the beach. Carrie under the sun working on a tan and Kate under the shade nearby. They had met at the movies a few weeks earlier. Both were alone. Carrie had just been dumped by her boyfriend and Kate was going by herself. They ended up talking and the friendship clicked. As they drove home, Kate sang along to the radio and Carrie kept her eyes on Kate rather than on the road. They both were having fun and enjoyed each others company. It was nice to have someone to talk to, to do things with they both thought. Carrie headed back to her apartment.

When they got in the cool apartment, suddenly the slight sunburn Kate had felt worse. Carrie hopped into the shower. Kate took her suit off from under her clothes and got dressed. Carrie came back out in a T-shirt and undies. Kate was on the couch with a pained look on her face. "What's wrong with you?" Carrie asked. Kate smiled, "just a sunburn babe they get me every time"

Carrie went to the cabinet and brought back some aloe. Kate lifted her shirt. Carrie laughed. "You're dying of a sunburn but you put your bra back on isn't that making it worse?" Kate just shrugged. "Take off your shirt and bra Kate, the air on your skin will help" Kate did as she was told and took off her shirt and her bra. She then lay on her stomach on the couch. Carrie kneeled beside the couch on the floor. Carrie started to rub, her cold hands felt good on Kate's burning skin.
