Gordon walked down the dirt road with Lyannadel fluttering near his shoulder. It would be another day before they reached Tulsay and the railway that could take him to Port Aransi in the south. The railway would make a trip of a couple of weeks in just a few days.

Gordon sought Thom Strider, a traveling scholar that wrote about exploring First Age ruins. Thom Strider might be able to answer a question about a city Gordon sought. If he couldn't answer he might at least know where to find the answers.

Morning mist covered the road ahead and dew could still be seen on the grass and trees. The only sound was the tinkling of bells as Lyannadel flew near him. Gordon enjoyed the silence. Cities were necessary, but he would rather be here in the woods.

A cry of pain broke the silence and he looked ahead but the mist and trees hid whatever made the sound. "Lyannadel, here," he ordered as he readied his bow.

Lyannadel landed on his shoulder and her normal glow dimmed. He stealthed quickly through the mist and around the bend in the road. A group of bandits had a woman in torn clothes surrounded. One had grabbed her and another was approaching her with a knife.
