I had been traveling for work quite a bit over the summer. Every week was a new city. When Fall rolled around I was looking forward to being home, but my boss informed me that there was some major issues with our St. Louis office and that I was being assigned to go there for 6-8 weeks to help straighten things out. I knew that objecting would do no good, so instead I did my best to negotiate a favorable financial bonus for my trip. My boss was willing to pay my full salary plus a 50% premium as well as covering all of my expenses while I was in St. Louis.

"Now, don't go crazy," were his parting words, "I'll cut your card off if you're out of control on spending."

"Don't worry about me," I laughed, "the craziest thing I'll have time for is a haircut." My boss laughed as I left his office. We both knew the hours I would be putting in would leave little time for much of anything. My track record with the company also gave him an assurance that I would be reasonable. Yes, I enjoyed a nice meal once in a while, but all too often my expense report showed more trips to the grocery store than anything. It was just easier to stay at a hotel that had a kitchenette in the room and buy my food than to waste the time going out all the time. Besides, who wants to go out to eat by themselves every night of the week.
