I was a junior in college when Dr. Winston called me into her office. I had taken her Media Law and Ethics course in the fall term and was currently writing a weekly op-ed for her in our school's paper.

"Chris, please sit down" she said. I sat in the chair nearest the door in front of her desk. "I wanted to talk to you about something."

I was a little surprised. I didn't think my weekly op-eds were good enough or bad enough to warrant any sort of conversation.

"Yeah, sure. What did you want to talk about?"

"You've been involved in the radio station for the past three years." True. Since my first week on campus I got involved with the various media programs. I had recently applied to be the GM of the radio station and while I had the support of the entire staff and the other media programs I had not been selected. "I was really upset Dr. Windborne didn't name you as Bryan's successor at the station. You were clearly the best candidate. This trip is normally reserved for the heads of the three departments and three or four journalism students but since I can't believe you weren't named GM, I would like you to accompany us to New York for a media conference."

I was taken aback. Completely flabbergasted. The previous GM wasn't invited, but that may have been because the previous GM didn't get ...
