The School Nurse

Albert Barnes walked down the stairs in school, thinking about the test his last period teacher said they'd be having tomorrow. Suddenly he felt a burst of pain in his foot, and the next thing he knew, he was on the tile floor at the base of the stairs.

"Damn!" he thought as he lay there. He'd apparently missed a step and turned his ankle.

Mr. Davis, the principal, rushed over to him. "Are you OK, Albert?" the principal asked.

Albert struggled to get to his feet. "Ah...yeah, I think so, Mr. Davis," he said. His ankle did hurt when he tried to stand on it, but not enough to make him think it was broken. "I wasn't paying attention and missed the bottom step. My ankle does hurt a little when I put weight on it."

"You better have Mrs. Bennis check it," the principal said. "School's almost over, why don't you go down to her office? What class are you in? I'll tell the teacher where you are."
