With a break for lunch from his college studies, Robert tried calling his girlfriend again. He had called, off and on, several times that morning with no answer. ‘Come on. Answer for Christ's sa-' he urged, only to hear it stop ringing and recognise Rachel's voice.

"Stop calling me, Robert," she told him.

"What?" was his reply.

"Look, I told you yesterday. We're through. Get over it."

He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had no idea she meant it was over when she mentioned something about a break. Robert looked at his phone in stunned silence when Rachel stopped speaking.

"Wait, what do you mean it's over. I thought -"

"Just what I said. I'm not ready for the kind of commitment you're looking for," she said.
