Unexpected pleasure part 2:

I set off early to join my daughter as it would be good to have the best part of a day down there with her before her husband and the kids arrived. I made very good time and arrived outside the holiday cottage about half past 9. I let myself in with the key from the outdoor key-safe and called out to Diane.

No answer - that was strange. I checked the downstairs and no sign of her; upstairs her bed had not been slept in. Well, I thought for a moment and then quietly retraced my steps, and drove a little way back up the road and texted her. "Hello darling. Made good time. Am 20 minutes away. Have coffee ready". About 5 minutes later she emerged from a house just down the road, kissed a gorgeous young man, and ran down the road. Well, who'd have thought, I chuckled.

I waited 30 minutes, then drove the short distance to the house, parked and knocked on the door. Diane was just having breakfast and appeared a little flustered and breathless. "Hello darling, which is my room." Diane guided me to a room upstairs at the back. "I'll just leave my stuff and then join you for coffee." On the way back down, I glanced in her room: the bedclothes were now all scrunched up as though someone had slept there. I laughed quietly, and went downstairs for a coffee and a chat. However, I hadn't seen the eyes watching me drive up to the house! ...
